How does Tessera measure noncognitive skills and character strengths?
Tessera’s advanced assessment methodology goes beyond traditional self-reporting to yield more reliable, valid results. Our online assessment tool integrates three different methodologies:
- Self-report rating scales.
Students rate the extent to which they agree with several statements.
- Situational judgment test items.
Students are presented with several scenarios and five possible responses to each. They rate the likelihood that they would engage in each response.
- Forced-choice items.
Students are presented with several statements and asked to select the statements that are “most like them” and “least like them.”
This multimodal approach makes it extremely difficult for students to fake their responses, and it also minimizes problems related to lack of accurate self-insight. These issues are typically associated with assessments that rely solely or primarily on self-report rating scales.
